The New York Times would like to tug on your heartstrings again, with this touching, touching, tale about Amy Klein, who, even with a Harvard degree, couldn't get a job at Gourmet magazine (sniffle) and....wait for it....had to join a PUNK ROCK BAND. And, gasp, TOUR. Like, FOR REALS ( Read more... )

A degree at Harvard is NOT PUNK ROCK.

True! She should have done something useful with that Harvard degree, like joining a bank and exploiting the masses and taking huge tax breaks!

I never do see the big picture.

I think it goes without saying that exploiting the masses is about the only way to pay for tuition at a place like Harvard. ;)

I just try to stay away from the NYT Style section entirely. They're either reporting on some "trend" that's years old, making one up, or just flat-out saying something completely, irredeemably stupid. If you have a tablet, you'll end up throwing it at the wall if you keep reading NYT Style.

It really is a horrible section, but even for them, this was bad.

Yes, I can't imagine being in the band really qualifies as the wait an see. It is counterproductive to the tone of the article. But note the corrections at the bottom of the article.. looks like the writer just rushed through the whole thing.

By the way, I actually had never heard of the band before. Must be because all the alternative radio stations in NJ and NY keep getting pulled. Don't even hear about "local" bands. Now I have to check them out...

The band showed up on one of my Pandora stations, and their webpage suggests a full tour schedule. To be honest I didn't like them.

I've quit listening to regular radio because at least in Florida it's pretty much just ClearChannel let's play the same 40 songs over and over and over and over until your ears bleed.
