Excellent points. I've only seen the movie once due to dire cashflow issues, but excellent point about Tony getting ambushed and not being given time to process rationally.

One thing that struck me was the sense that Tony was basically alone at the end. Everyone who had been on 'his side' at the outset was either in some way damaged by it or had turned away from it in one way or another, even though he had backed down from his earlier stance. That and the breakup with Pepper make me kind of worry about Tony. He's got some long-standing social issues that don't do well in solitude.

Because of that though, I kind of see Tony's recruiting of Spiderman as almost a desperation play to contact someone without a direct pre-existing stake in the issue, and on some not quite conscious level maybe make a friend that he hasn't managed to alienate yet. The mutual techno geek appreciation society and the snark levels in their meeting were awesome though.

I have only seen it once, but I look forward to seeing it many more times at some point.

I don't think Tony's entirely alone -- Rhodey's still there, and still believes in the accords; and Vision is presumably still around. But Vision isn't well suited to be anyone's emotional support system, let alone someone as damaged as Tony, and Rhodey is focused on his own recovery -- as he damn well should be. So yeah, Tony's not in a great place.

I'd love to see him become a friend and mentor to Peter. I do think Tony recruited him as a way of looking to the future of the Avengers. He must've had an eye on Peter for a while, since before the mess with Accords started. He'd observed Spider-Man long enough to figure out his real identity. And the two of them did banter geekily and adorably together. I'm hoping Tony will have a cameo in the Spider-Man movie.

Maybe Tony walked out of Siberia like Clark Kent walked out of the North Pole in Superman II...
