Were the company someone else, I might be inclined to say they were pulling a 'Much Ado About Nothing' and simply casting whoever did the role best without looking at skin color. Given who is involved however, I will say it was a series of executive decisions based on some number crunching on how to get the most people into the theater. Such numbers are not based on drawing the fans in (that relies on the name and subject matter) but instead on drawing in those who have never seen or read much of anything about the subject at hand. This sort of thinking is what caused Eragon to have one of the main characters go from a dark haired elf to a blonde human. It is their belief that if they take certain actions, change certain elements and generally make things into something they were not originally, that their sales will go through the roof. Generally, it fails. They have viewers go in thinking it will be something new (because of all the positive things they heard from fans about the original whatever) and get the same garbage they are
