Otherworld Miniatures' Female Adventurers

Mar 30, 2014 15:33

I've mentioned Otherworld Miniatures before, most notably here. They make modern-style miniatures inspired by early AD&D art.

In the past I've talked entirely about their monster minis, and while that's partly because some of them are truly awesome, it's also because their collection of adventurer minis were exclusively male. Which, although I never said anything, bothered me. Bad enough that most female fantasy miniatures are wearing ridiculously sexualized costumes and posed for titillation, but being erased entirely...that might be worse.

But I got a pleasant surprise this morning. I received an email from them advertising their new dragon sculpts, and while browsing their online store I also discovered a whole crop of female adventures. They weren't in the latest email update, and I don't know when they were added, but it has been five months since my last visit.

And they're...not sexualized at ALL. They are, in fact, almost uniformly awesome.

Start with their barbarian, who is NOT wearing a fur bikini:

Cleric:

Fighter:

Half-Orc Assassin:

Gnome Fighter:

These are fantastic. There's more too. You can see their online store here.

Between this and nelc's torch videos, I'm really stoked for some old school AD&D right now.

Now if only I had any money....

dungeons and dragons, miniatures
