On My Workbench: More 40K Stuff

Heldrake base: after the JB Weld cured, I added some drywall plaster to create a more natural ground surface, added some patches of Vallejo #26213 Rough Grey Pumice for texture, then masked the clear plastic stand with masking tape and sprayed the base with Rust-Oleum textured spraypaint.

Lot of pics, so I'm putting the rest below the fold.

Here's the base partially painted. I started with Behr S200-7 Earth Fired Red, my primary ground color for green field terrain. I also painted the cultist bases at the same time, since I had the paint out.

I then added some splashes of Tamiya XF-64 Red Brown, to add some color variation. When it first went on I was afraid it would be too close to the base color, but it darkened nicely as it dried. Finally I bathed the whole thing in a wash make of three parts water and one part Tamiya XF-10 Flat Brown. Next step is flocking, which means digging around in the garage for wherever I stored my flock for the move.

Again, as I worked on the Heldrake base I also applied the same techniques to the cultist bases.

I'm continuing to work on the quad guns too. I finished painting the green parts with Tamiya XF-62 Olive Drab. The antennas and some wiring on the pedastals and the centerposts were painted XF-69 NATO Black, for that rubber effect, and the autocannon barrels were painted X-10 Gunmetal.
