FFXII Fic: Knots, Ties and Tides, Chapter 1 (Penelo, Ashe, Larsa)

May 12, 2007 01:32

If anyone asks, this is midnightdiddle's fault. She wrote me an abusive!Vaan fic that worked and I wanted to try something equally brain-breaky for her. ♥ And me being me, it's probably going to start out as farce and darken into something actually serious later. Please send help ASAP before much more of this is written! And much love to artemischan for helping with the ( Read more... )

Bloody hell, woman. You make me love Ashe! And her Capital Letters of Great Importance! And you do that in, what... half a fic?! Damn, you're even better than Squenix...

Mount Bur Sword-in-Face and village of the terrifying-amazon-bunny-women... XD

Basch's inhuman masochism, Larsa's ability to yap elemental's ears off, Ashe's longwinded speech to steer people off from her point... could you make Balthier being the henpecked male he is? Come on, you know he is being henpecked by the scary amazon female =P

I love the whacky storytelling. Please continue the story like this. I need the giggle!

Oooh, I got someone to love Ashe! ♥ ♥ ♥ You give me much too much credit, since Larsa belongs to Squenix and thus they are made of win for that much alone... but being told that I made someone like a character's that's notoriously... thorny fills me with love. XD Ashe is indeed so very sneaky sometimes. And I love hearing about all the details you enjoyed about the characters-- it's really helpful when writing future chapters.

And Balthier... ah, Balthier might or might not have a special role to play in the fic. I don't write him very much but I shall indeed keep his servitude to Fran in mind... ;)

And thank you for enjoying! This fic is going to get darker and darker as time goes on (what with Larsa doesn't exactly have the best time in his young life in the game and all) but I promise to keep the inappropriate jokes rolling as long as possible. ♥

Larsa, Fran and Penelo are easy to love! But I got all ...mm, okay... to the other characters. First impression when I saw the chara design: Vaan=pimp, Fran=BUNNY!!, Penelo=can't they design a better clothes for her, Ashe=yes, I can see your nose very well. Ashe was never one on my love list, so yes, I think the credit belongs to you for making me love her.

I just love how Balthier like to brag but Fran keep on shooting him down XD

Will be waiting for the next chapter ^_^

Heh, I admit that my easiest-to-love charas are Penelo, Larsa, Vaan and Basch and Dr. Cid, in roughly that order. I've become fond of Ashe and Vayne but Balthier and Fran still inspire mostly indifference in me...

But yeah, the Balthier and Fran dynamic is a pretty fun one. And I promise, the next chapter shall be out next week, cross my heart. ♥

Her parents had been shop-keepers and his parents had been potion makers

And I pause right here as my mind exclaims "aha! How Vaan Survived Childhood."

Hormones are apparently killing Larsa's sensibility. Or is it just the Solidor insanity?

It was rather amazing to see how intimidating Larsa’s face could be in the next moment.

The best part was, I knew EXACTLY what his face would look like. :o Run, Penelo, run!

need careful cultivation away from the rougher elements to bloom properly. Rather like you, actually.”

NOOOO HE'S GONNA SEPARATE HER FROM VAAN, SOCK HIM PENELO--was my first thought; what else could he mean by 'rougher elements'? XD

Whatever money Vaan's parents made must have gone to pad Vaan's hospital bills. They likely turned to potion-making as a way of keeping him alive and themselves solvent at the same time. XD

Plus... someone like Snape as Vaan's forefather. C'mon... tell me that's not so twisted in wouldn't work in its own style!

Hormones are apparently killing Larsa's sensibility. Or is it just the Solidor insanity?

Hormones are but a glint in Larsa's mental horizons right now, him being but a wee lad of 12 and all. But boy howdy can that boy already plan for the future... ::whistles:: And yes, the patented Solidor Insanity is playing a bit of a part!

Heh, I know exactly what face you're talking about as well. Emo!Ending!Fideo!Larsa to the rescue once more! And if you've seen Spiderman 3, god damn does the emo look Peter sports while "evil" remind me of Larsa. ::titter::

And ooh. Oooh Vaan. Being seperated from Penelo. OMG, I have not even thought of that. That's gonna be a hard one to write. ::wince:: But necessary, needless of say. Penelo and ( ... )

"They are indeed quite beautiful… but they are also very small, and very pale, and need careful cultivation away from the rougher elements to bloom properly. Rather like you, actually.”

Uh, sure, right. *waits for Larsa to eventually get smacked*

Heee! Poor Larsa... he's trying his best to please Penelo and it's... not really working at all. He should be pitied more than anything at this point. ;) ♥

Everyone seems slightly mad here, which seems apt for Penelo's POV, and I liked how much of the scheming occurs without her knowledge. She and Vaan are there for the journey, and it's good to be reminded that they don't make the decisions.

Larsa seems very keen on marriage for a 12-year-old, but I expect he may have read novels that made it sound exciting. I also wonder whether this isn't the sort of discussion that would happen after the game-- since at this point, both Larsa and Ashe would (to me) be more concerned with the impending war than what would happen after, and by Jahara, Larsa seems to have learnt something of Vayne's not-always-sublime manner that he was ignorant of in Bhujerba. I remain curious where you're going with this.

As far as Penelo is concerned, madness seems to be specially bred in the minds of Ivalice's grandest! (And she hasn't even met Vayne yet, tsk tsk.) And yeah, being a plucky street orphan and not a member of high-falutin' society, it's going to be an uphill battle for her to earn respect from, well, practically anyone around her who isn't Vaan ( ... )

Heee, Ashe love always excites me! Frankly speaking, I've always thought that her mad, plotty, unhinged side needed more love from all... ;)
