FFXII Fic: 20 Things the Late Emperor Left Behind (Larsa, Larsa/Penelo)

Mar 25, 2007 06:28

If I was to blame for this jubiliant piece, Mithrigil is in turn the inspiration for this! Really, I blame her-- and the apparently terrifying Vulcan mind meld of fic about Older Larsa that we share together. ;)

In any case, this was something I felt that more or less needed to be written. And this is yet another part of The Uses of Enchantment series, ( Read more... )

Hee, I am thrilled you loved the fic! ♥ And it's always interesting to see exactly what people make of the ending since I am not willing to confirm or deny anything until I have a few other fics for the series written!

Aw.

It's things like this that almost--ALMOST--convert me to the side of the light.

In particular, of course "the disappearance", but also the washer-woman and the letters. You really do have a ficility with this lot, and it shows here.

I still harbor high hopes of permanently seducing you to the side of light! We have better snacks than that healthy schmelthy fruit stuff the side of darkness serves, damn it.

I will never stop loving the idea of Larsa and Penelo exchanging letters with each other-- those two are an salutory love story in the making. ♥ And Random Washer Woman might be my favorite OC of all time. She was clearly queen of her gossip circle in hr day. ;)

...I think I may be in love. ♥

(Um, I wandered over through ff_press. Hi!)

I love the sweetness (and the spice--*giggles at the washerwoman*), but also the glimpses of the kind of Emperor Larsa was. It's a beautiful balance between public and private.

Hi back! It's always nice to see new people in my LJ! ;) And I'm thrilled at the balance you see between the public and the private-- that's exactly what this entire fic was all about. ♥

And if you want more spice... there's always the NC-17 rated Songs in the Key of Strange Minor, also connected to this series. The washerwoman comes from the following lines:

Only ten minutes later-- "God," Penelo said in a voice that bespoke upcoming ecstasy, "I love being married to a younger man"-- he was ready and she was astride him as he half-lay across their expensive, exquisite and no doubt about to be hopelessly stained bed-sheets.

And the rest I cannot quote where the eyes of the innocent might see. But if you're into that kinda thang, there's that. XD

I think what else I loved (aside from DPR) is that I can so totally see everything happening. Larsa and Penelo's kids are just like them, and I would so huggle Larsa's namesake. He seems just like him!

Other things I enjoyed:
-The "revision" to the coat of arms
-All the new schools! (The teacher in me loves it)
And others I don't feel like listing, since it'll make this comment pretty darn long.

Though I still hold that the Dread Pirate Ratsbane needs more publicity! Think I could jump on that bandwagon?

Sweetness! I'll get on that after I'm done playing kickball in the giant muddy swampy today. ^_^

#15 confused me a bit. I thought at first that "subsequent" meant it was following #13 and #14, and then I realized that maybe it was just following Larsa's death, but either way I'm still not sure what prompts the exchange?

Awww, what, Mark Twain gets no attribution? ;p

I really liked this. Some confusion with #15, yeah, but other than that I enjoyed all of the pieces and I'm really curious about what his successor will be like, what with those "interesting changes" he promises. :)

Heee, I meant that the conversation followed Larsa's, ah, disappearence from his usual haunts. Sorry for the confusion! ::blush:: And I kinda just figured Twain's quote is too famous to get one. Or perhaps it's my deep absent-mindedness talking there. XD

And the kids he has with Penelo are kinda funky and interesting in and of themselves, though I doubt they'll ever show up in my fics except in tiny little flashes and snippets in the above. (I haven't even nailed down definitive names for them yet!) As for his son and sucessor... well, let's just say the future can't come soon enough for him. He goes even further than his father did in that respect! ;)
