FFXII Fic: A Sort of Fairy Tale (Larsa X Penelo)

Feb 03, 2007 21:11

For La_Xhal, with the dearest love possible. I probably should have put this up far, far, far before February came rolling around with all it's demands... but this piece just kept growing and growing and growing, until it became what it is today. But in any case, I do hope you enjoy it, Liz. &hearts And feel free to read this as a logical extension of theRead more... )

I agree with mithrigil; this is the polar opposite to her Erikonig. Still, I love it because of all the barriers the two of them have to cross. Having a simple teenage romance is one thing--but finally taking that dive into marriage, and into royalty--is something that no one would easily step into. Hell, I know many a-couple who have been together with hardly as many as constrictions as Larsa and Penelo and still have not married. It's a big decision to make, and it's nice to see them address the issues that will come with it--and work together to surmount those issues.

As always, beautiful, Maria.

Hee, if you see it as well, it really must be Erlkonig's dark light counterpart! ;)

I find mature love more interesting to try and explore than just a teen romance-- though mind, those can be exciting as well! And yes, I think there's inherant drama in watching pretty much any couple-- but Larsa and Penelo in particular-- scheme, negotiate, quarrle, argue and elbow their way to a happy ending. So I'm really glad it worked for you here! And with any luck, the next installment of this will appear soon. ::whistles::

Thank you for the lovely review-- it really cheered up my day! Wow... I don't think I've ever had anything I've written been described as beautiful before. &hearts

I give it two thumbs up! :D I would give it more, but I only have two thumbs.

Heeee! Maybe that just means that you need to convince your brother to give you some impromptu third-thumb plastic surgery...? ;)

I am both humbled and inspired by your craft. You have an incredible way of weaving the intensity of character emotion and relationships together to create something that is extraordinarily poignant and truly draws the reader into the story, body and soul.

She has a terrible habit of laughing too loud and loving too hard and giving everything she has to everything she does in a way that absolutely defied dignity

And he knows better than to let the present state of the world dictate his will, to let the weight of tradition and noblesse oblige to oppress him and his get forever, to stop believing that the impossible can be conjured up by even imperfect beings.Do you know how quotable your works are? Sometimes I have to slow down my reading and try to remember them as much as I can because not many can achieve the same sort of heartfelt complexity that you give to your prose and characters. In that way your prose here reminds me a bit of Haruki Murakami. Honest to whatever god there is, how do you do that ( ... )

...! ...!! ...!!!

Eeee, I'm not quite sure what to say now! Except, I'm really grateful you took the time to read this humongous thing and review it. Personally, though I like the concept of this, I think it kinda floats to the saccharine end of the gene pool, no matter how many jokes I make about Larsa's innate poufiness. But if you enjoyed it so, something must have been good about this after all. ;) Those two are definitely my favorite lines in this fic, btw-- if only because they pretty much capture what I think of as the essense of Penelo and Larsa.

And the Haruki Murakami comment...! I'm not fit to touch the hem of his robe as a writer but I'm glad something about this struck you as a bit like him. &hearts

I definitely have already written another-- not quite chapter but another fic that falls in line with this continuity! I have to put some other stuff up first, but I'll definitely be updating soon. I hope you enjoy that as well. ;)

It's saccharine, yes, but not to the point of being cheesy (I didn't have any adverse reaction, so yeah). Besides, once in a while I crave for feel-good/fluffy one-shots like this; your VaynexPenelo drains me quite a lot, not that I'm complaining, of course. ^_^

Perchance, are you a Murakami reader as well? Because if you are, your coolness points would have increased dramatically in my radar!! 8D

I do believe I've read a few of Murakami's short stories in college classes, though damn if I can recall exactly what they were called now. Do my coolness points still go up? ;)

And Vayne X Penelo will ALWAYS be draining if you want either to stay in character! I feel bad... I love them (in a OH MY GOD they are such a freaking trainwreak together let's stay and see the gore sort of way) and I've been neglecting them in favor of the sap. Hopefully I'll have something on them done by the end of the (v. v. busy, damn it all!) month.

Wow, that was a really awesome piece! I'm really sorry I didn't read this yesterday...like I said I woud...D: I'm sorry!

It was well worth it! I just loved the whole sweet, expectant quality and the perfect dialogue. Larsa's disappointment was so cute and so sad at the same time. Penelo's outburst at the end was just like her, and really added to the character of the whole thing. ;__; You make me like Larsa and Penelo more and more with every fic I read. They are great together, and you write them great as well. Awesome fic!

Nothing to be sorry about! And you've got EXCELLENT timing! Your gift fic is now up. ;)

Also, I'm glad you enjoyed Larsa and Penelo together. It was a bit difficult to try and pinpoint how both would be in a romantic since FFXII is, god bless, almost completely devoid of romance (at least of the NON-DOOMED VARIETY) despite having the most do-able Final Fantasy cast ever. But it was fun imagining them and I'm glad you liked reading the results!

(Also, yer icon? The absolute cuteness. LxP 4eva!!!1!, yeah? ;)
