FFXII Fic: The Teeth of Serpents (Vayne, Gabranth, Larsa)

My first fanfic for the new year and as a new bride and of course it turns out to be hilariously morbid. ;) But in any case, this is for the exquisite and forever supportive lady_venn(I shall contrive a way to hear your voice yet!) and inspired by the wonderfully black-hearted-when-she-needs-to-be lindensphinx. This Vayne seems like the kind of creature she’d dream up ( Read more... )

... oh, that was deliciously clever. And entirely nasty, and logical and oh-so-Vayne. Lovely work.

(and I'm always glad to inspire Vaynefic.)

Heee! I'm glad-- talking this over with you was fun, since you probably already guessed what Vayne would want from the very first line of this fic! ;)

Magnificent bastard indeed! XD And him being so "high class and batshit crazy yet calm and logical" is just why I love writing him so. It's so fun to have your readers and the other characters go on thinking that Vayne is anywhere near approaching reasonable and sane... until you realize just why he isn't...

Vayne is such a dick, isn't he? And it's all so logical to him, no matter how twisted and abhorrent the idea is to anyone else. I feel for poor Gabranth, forced to bloody his hands with this sort of work. And the way Vayne pokes him about Basch... Grrr!

Lovely work, as always. ♥

Vayne is indeed an uber-dick, oh yes, and Gabranth gets the dubious distinction of being the go-to buy whenever Vayne has yet another one of his "ideas" again, poor guy. I just hope he gets a damn fine salary from all the innocent people he's had to slaughter (Drace, Reks, this poor kid) over the years due to his lord's plans!

Thank you, dearest! ♥

The first-person comes off very well indeed. I'm am thoroughly creeped out by your Vayne--so concerned about Larsa, and so heartless toward everyone else (even the theoretical daughter). The fact that it all makes logical sense and *no* emotional sense and *perfect* emotional sense considering Vayne's very screwed-up family life is just...yeah. He creeps me out. As he should. XD

Someday, I'm going to have to write that fic about Vayne's very screwed-up family life, oh yes. It'll probably be an evil little mind-fuck of a fic with much, much unpleasantness of various sorts involved... but it would be damned handy for penetrating into Vayne's mind, wouldn't it? ;)

And thank you for reviewing even though you don't like Vayne! You are a sweetheart in the best sense possible! ♥

I think this is more chilling for the fact that Vayne doesn't come out and say what he wants Gabranth to do-- but that that's clearly because it (the baby, Gabranth's exercise of his 'duties') isn't important to Vayne. It's an almost academic problem of rhetoric (he doesn't have to convince Gabranth, but he apparently likes to linger in the rhetoric, anyway).

Oh, the child and Gabranth definitely don't matter to Vayne, except in how much they can use them and how willing they would be to stand in his way. I don't think Vayne truly believes in the actual humanity of anyone besides himself and Larsa... and Larsa's humanity only comes about because he's meant to be Vayne's mirror image. ::shudder::

And all Solidors do like the sound of their own voice, don't they? ;)
