There are certain fics that you want to write. There are certain fics that you’d love to write. And then there are those certain special fics that you need to write, lest the fact that you haven’t finished them up-- even during the special hell that is finals week-- drive you absolutely insane ( Read more... )

God, this fight has been coming for so long, and you've executed it to a tee. Excellent chapter, m'dear.

I definitely understand his motivations -- but if the plot bunny for that side story's been gnawing away at you, then have at it. :P

And it was a little frightening for a bit, there, because I saw just a hint of Vayne in him. And god knows that all men are that clueless at times. xD But perhaps not quite as awkward (he already knows about that time of month? with Drace?! bless the poor kid).

And now, back to studying for Beginning Japanese, Freshman Studies, and Traditional East Asian Civ finals! Though this was an excellent distraction. ;)

Looks like I'm not the only person who thinks that there's a bit of Vayne in here... (ref to my post below)

*blush* why, thank you! I still need to improve my reading skill, since there's some part of it that I missed. :)

It's a Roller Coaster Ride quastar December 7 2007, 22:49:56 UTC
It was a roller coaster ride of emotions reading this chapter. Anger, shame, guilt, disappointment, shock, etc. - it were well presented in the storyline.

Moue - it's a new word for me (thought it was a spelling mistake, but Google save my day).

Strangely, Larsa just flinched at that, as though she had reached out to strike him again, instead of keeping her hands folded around her back in an effort to hide the stupid way they tremlbed. But he spoke instead and when he spoke, it sounded as though he was trying to hide as well.

At least I'm pretty sure that you misspelt trembled in this line. ;)

“Seriously,” Penelo replied, and felt utterly dumbfounded again. “Is this honestly surprising you? Are you planning on being amazed the next time I point out that the sky is blue, the trees are pretty and you‘re still about six inches and sixty pounds from being someone I'd jump into bed with anytime soon?”

This is the paragraph of the day. All hail Penelo! :D

“You are just as manipulative as I am, Penelo,” he whispered, and suddenly his ( ... )

A roller coaster ride is probably the very best metaphor that could describe this chapter, oh yes. ;) And both Larsa and Penelo swing back and forth from all of those emotions and more-- after all, they're friends and (even if Penelo wants to deny it), they do care about each other. And really, that's what makes the fight between them even more bitter.

Thank you for correcting my silly misspelling! I'm seriously terrible at catching those types of errors. And when Penelo wants to, she can hit hard. And not just in the physical sense either!

Vayne really has been an enormous influence on Larsa all his life. And even though Larsa's doing his best to not turn into the tyrant and monster his brother's become... well, Vayne's influence isn't going to disappear so easily. But trust me... much more on this will appear later ( ... )

Not a problem, to err is human after all :) I can help with that, but not when it comes to grammar :P

And trust me-- Vaan, Basch, Fran and Balthier definitely are going to come into the story sooner or later. More than anything else I've ever written, this is going to be an ensemble production. And I think I am going to have so much fun with Vaan's reaction. Who doesn't want to have an empress for a quasi-sister?! XD

I am glad to know that! Being a loyal fan of Vaan, I will definitely want to know his reaction. :D

Oh, if all goes well, all the rest of the team will have their chance to have a proper reaction! We'll see how that goes, however. XD

Oh, YES. YES. Thank you so much for letting them have this fight in such glory, not either of them pulling any of the punches by the end.

I like Penelo as plucky orphan and warrier, and Larsa as lost little boy and political operative. They're both young here, and in transition, and it's so good to see that.

::blush:: Coming from you, that makes me ridiculously happy. I was actually thinking I should have sent this chapter off to you to get your opinion first but I know you were terribly busy and I didn't want to be a bother. So I'm pleased beyond the telling that you liked the fact that neither Penelo nor Larsa were pulling any punches here. After all, they've both bent over backwards to be caring and understanding to each other already. I think it's about time they spoke their real minds to each other.

And 'plucky' certainly is a word you can put to Penelo. ;) She's lived a pretty hard life already and she's far tougher than she looks-- or than Larsa wants her to have to be either. And Larsa is such a blend of innocence and political experience here. He understands politics, he understands manipulation... but he's more than a little clueless when it comes to the human heart, especially when said heart belongs to Penelo. It'll be interesting to see if they can both eventually stop seeing each other less as ideals than as real and ( ... )

Even after all the time we've spent apart (and how did we drift? When did that happen?!) I'm incredibly happy to know that. It's wonderful seeing you once more! ♥

I actually reread this a few times, trying to figure out where I should start, and I think the best place to start would be the end.

I love seeing spells used in outside of their usual combat roles, so when I realized what Penelo had done I was very, very happy. I don't know why I like it so much--I guess it just seems to add that extra little touch to the setting. (Plus: think how awesome it'd be in real life!)

...although I wonder if Larsa's going to start carrying Nethicite around Penelo. XD But really, I'd love to see his reaction when he first realizes what she did. He might, in the end, decide it was an ingenious trick he should learn, but in the meantime, I can just see him blowing his chocobo-fluff-covered top. XD

Okay, I'll get the little things I noticed out of the way right now:
in an effort to hide the stupid way they tremlbed.
"And after we were married, I will think of that even more." (Tense)
Penelo knew he still wasn’t looking her clearly. ("looking" could be "seeing". Alternatively, you could just add an " ( ... )

Well, Penelo's last name-- at least in my canon-- is Majus. She comes from a long line of mage-merchants and warriors and I'm sure her ancestors would be proud to see her act that legacy onto a Solidor now! XD

And I love the idea of people in the FFXII world using spells outside their normal contexts as well. Hell, if you were able to set things on fire with the force of your mind, would you seriously only use it when you're on the formal battle field? I wouldn't have that force of mind myself!

Oooh, and thank you for the corrections. I'm so awful at copy-editing myself. ♥

And moving on to the great stuff! ...omg, I can't believe Larsa started out by asking about her period. And then insinuating she was acting out of lust! (In fact, I wasn't even thinking of Penelo and lust being a possible combination at the moment, so when he said that I didn't get what he meant until Penelo's reaction.)

Heh. Poor Larsa. He thought he was being so suave when he was trying to console Penelo about her misbehaving uterus! He thought he was scoring ( ... )
