Bloody buggering public transport!

Sep 06, 2009 10:32

Whilst I love living in Metroland, the transport infrastructure leaves a lot to be desired. To get into London today, I have precisely ONE option (that isn't a rail replacement bus, and I don't DO buses). This one option is also once an hour. When did we start living in a 2nd world country? Did I miss the vote on that one or something? And ( Read more... )

I know! What the HELL were they thinking? "No-one volunteered to work this Sunday so, sorry, no trains." I might demand some kind of refund on my ticket. London Midland are possibly the most useless company out there.

Someone got there before me, but yes, they cut the pay of drivers for what was a volunteer shift. So no drivers. Funny that.

You absolutely should claim a refund, and one for me too! Utter stupidity and lack of proper planning.

To be honest, Boris is the answer.

When I was in London, I found the Routemasters most useful - hop on, hop off, no problem. So they scrapped them and put on those execrable bendy-bus things.

Bendy buses pre-date Boris - he wants rid of them (apparently)

The answer is actually: underinvestment due to rail privatisation. To pretty much any question about why the railways are crap...

Wrong Boris error. I of course meant Boris the Bandit, not Boris the Buffoon. Although the buffoon ditching tbe bendy bollocks and bringing back the Routemaster will do a lot of good. Him allowing motorcycles in bus-lanes was a result as well!

Sorry, thought you were answering the 'why is London public transport crap?' question, not the 'how does one avoid crap London public transport?' question!

Apparently, up until last weekend London Midland drivers got double pay for working on sundays. And once they stopped getting double pay they stopped volunteering. Funny, that.

Good heavens. You don't say.

That detail seems strangely under-reported.

it was on the radio news today (probably BBC); but how is a voluntary sunday shift vs a scheduled sunday shift a good idea on a *transport* *network*. idiots.

Ew, trains. Never liked them. As Louis says, they go from somewhere you aren't to somewhere you don't want to be at a time that is not convenient.

Would you prefer buses? I'm very sure I don't!

Bikes should always be the answer, unless it is raining.

Busses are the next ring of hell.

If bikes aren't the answer the question needs altering (well, except when it's wet or slippery, but then that's what 4 wheel drive is for).
