Self-sufficiency

I took Brian to the airport this morning. He'll be in the California desert for a few days for work. Tomorrow will be my first full day without him since... I guess since I went to Cedar Rapids in December of 2005? I went on one other business trip (to St Louis, in Oct or so of 2005) and he went to China for a month in Sept of 2005. Those are the ( Read more... )

Guess you'll have to be doing the commute/carbon saving for the both of you. There's a point where it makes no sense to even try, unless you have dedicated bike paths planned very well that connect home to work. We have one hell of a valley and hills beyond on either ridge between me and work.

I have thought about an older motorcycle, as long as it was well tuned at least it would use less gas than a car built to haul 4 or 5 people. What does he drive?

That does sound like a generous friend. Finest kind, them as share food.

I used to have a motorcycle (an '89 Kawasaki EX500) that got pretty good mileage, but Brian didn't like it much. He drives a Honda Civic hybrid, so he's probably using as little gas as he can.

The english book we used (best engish book I've had for a class) talked about a study done about communication in couples. It was very interesting the two takes on the same situations.

Like, one guy would literally lay down and cover his eyes when his girlfriend said she had something serious to talk about. And the girl would always get mad and storm out because she felt like he was acting like a child.
But the guy was saying that he had to do that in order to focus, otherwise he would get distracted by the things in the room.

Interesting stuff.

Wow. Yeah, this writer did things similar to that. He'd give couples a short "interview," asking them how they met and what they argued about. Then he'd ask them to talk about one of the things they argued about and he'd analyze their argumentative style. He also found that men who remembered details about how they met and how he proposed were much more likely to be in happy marriages.

Yeah. Funny how people work.
Especially when, in this case, all the girl had to do was ask him why he did that whenever she wanted to talk. :-x You know... instead of storming out all angry, assuming things. :-P

Hey, what's your email address? I need to send you the evite.

Exactly! That was the first thing I thought when I made the decision to go. Haha. Or, ok, well maybe the 3rd.

Although it does rain, it is more of a "misting" than a rain. I don't think I have ever seen in downpour in Vegas... although they have issued flash flood warnings in the past. :-x

AND, I did hear that it snowed a little last year. But, I don't know what "snow" means to Vegas people. :-P
