Oh, you so should! They do a really good job of stand up comedy using the plays. It might be floating around the Internet, I'm not sure - I got a burned copy from a friend for my collection.

But I did see it in the theatre, so it's not entirely stealing? LOL

The Māori Merchant of Venice is beautiful, if you can find it and tolerate subtitles throughout.

I honestly don't mind subtitles! I will most definitely have to watch.

I loved Much Ado About Nothing. It's a good play to get newbies into watching filmed plays, and Shakespeare, as it has an easy plot, a lot of humor, and the language isn't too hard to get. You can overlook the ham because the bulk of it is good; and I think it opens a little window on what people of the past had for entertainment. Like people a few hundred years from now watching our tv (only they'd probably wonder wtf?! was wrong with us, lol).

I do think Branagh isn't an actor that translates to film well, ~because of the Shakespearean training. His mannerisms reminded me a lot of William Shatner, in Star Trek (only it worked for Shatner, because he was in an episodic drama/scifi show that had to break for commercials).

Have you ever seen "Dead Again"? Both he and Emma are in it, and, imo, both of them do a better, more natural job in the flashback historical scenes (though Emma seems more comfortable, overall).

No, I haven't seen "Dead Again"! *puts on list*

I think that Emma is the sort of person who can't be thrown by much of anything, actually. :)

A lot of "Much Ado" I think is saved by the fact that the play requires a strong ensemble cast. Sometimes Branagh can hog the spotlight :( Plus it's just a fun experience and that version is complete gold.

Ahh! Titus will always and forever be my favorite Shakespeare movie. I loved the play immensely, and Julie Taymor did wonderful things with it. Between the unbelievable cast and the incredible artistic vision... wow!

Right there with you on Much Ado; Branagh is great at being a jerk you want to laugh along with.

... I am shocked and disappointed in myself that I haven't seen your other top 4. Maybe after I graduate and have time to look at a screen other than my laptop, then that might change.

Yes! I love Titus but I always worry what the says about me. :) Saturninus was my favorite bad guy and I ended up with an even bigger crush on Anthony Hopkins after this movie.

Really? Good luck finding "Chimes at Midnight" but I heard there might be a new version coming out on DVD finally, I dunno *fingers crosses*

I love "The Abridged Shakespeare" and they have it on DVD pretty cheaply. Honestly, this is the one I watch most often, because it is hilarious!
