I'm a little skittish about riding the bus, but part of that is because I have to carry a laptop and purse. There's also the fact that I'd still have to drive about 20 miles just to catch the bus to drive the other 20 miles. And then there's the whole "what if I need to go somewhere and I'm stuck waiting for a bus to come" fear. Now, if we had trains of some sort that ran all day long and I could hop on one of those after waiting just 10-15 minutes, I think I'd be all about it. I'd still have to figure out the laptop/purse issue. I'm not adverse to taking an alternate form of transportation, but I want it to be cheap, easy, safe and quick. I vote we go with the hydrogen cars or something just as economical and earth-friendly. Then we don't have to give up our freedoms (hard to break old habits). Of course, I highly advocate telecommuting as well, but it seems that just as you think more companies would consider going in that direction, more of them are instead revoking working at home. I have to assume it's a case of a few ( ... )

I did have to search a bit for the perfect bag, but now that I have it, I love it. Of course, because I'm at a university, nobody cares that I have a backpack, but there are plenty of good non-student-y bags out there. I tend to consolidate everything in to the one bag, which was part of its selling point, to me.

I've written before about bus anxiety, which boils down to 'you get over it, but it's hard at first'. And this is why a lot of universities, anyway, offer the Emergency Ride Home programs. I think TTA does, too, at least for Vanpool.
If I didn't have good buses in my area, I'd look in to Vanpool, which program is actually pretty cool, when you think about it.
