Update on Steve

Two months ago we were in Seattle and we picked up a new set of strings for Steve's 5 string bass. But he didn't put them on because he kept saying he needed a different string. One that RotoSound doesn't make. But he couldn't remember what size. Just that it was a "Low B ( Read more... )

Poor guy, did he get the strings on at last?

Unless the strings are set out in gradients, like what you did, it's not always so easy to tell which string is which. Steve had a noticeable glitch in his perception of 'gauge' even back in 2000 when he was building the PC Quilter, and was also prone to odd mistakes like putting one wheel on the wrong side of the frame and not noticing he'd done so. I had to carefully check every carriage he fabricated, because he'd do a process right a hundred times, then suddenly start doing it wrong and insist that it had always been done that way.

Therefore, take heart; what you describe isn't a music glitch at all, and it's not a new glitch either. It's one he had fourteen years ago, before he had the stroke - maybe it's dementia-related, but maybe he's had it all his life; a perceptual-anomaly thing. That was my hypothesis from observing him in the robot shop: he wasn't lazy, he wasn't careless, he just sometimes (only sometimes) had a glitch in his spatial perception that caused him to make errors ( ... )

Long answer: I'm tempted to go to the social. I keep meaning to go... but then shit happens and we don't.

Having the CPAP machine should help change that sort of thing, but fully catching up on my sleep deprivation, and all the chores that are lagging here is going to take some more time.

Short answer: I don't know yet. :)

Well, let me know if you decide to go (582-1724) because then I'll go - otherwise I don't know either; I'm kind of in a slump, and way behind on my chores too. But... trying to be social nonetheless, and also to support the Shire now that Althon is Seneschal, and also to not let the 'Old Guard' be forgotten amidst all these newbs.

Off-topic: Ren has this lovely cat for whom she's seeking a lovely home. He's a Norwegian Forest Cat - big guy - an indoor kitty, kind of shy but friendly, personable and with impeccable manners. He belonged to one of her students, who left him with her 'temporarily' and then flew home to Japan. She lives in a one-room apartment with her own cat, who's beating the shit out of poor Foo-Foo-Chan* so that he hides under the dresser all the time, but Ren's not willing to let him go to 'just anybody'.

So: don't you need a cat? This guy is a real beauty; if you're interested, I'll let Ren know so you can go over and have a look at him.

*(terrible name could be changed.)
