Spiritual but not religious

I came across an article at CNN.com the other day: Are there dangers in being 'spiritual but not religious'?

Most of the article was a discussion of this or that perspective, which I didn't mind. However, what bugged me was what a Jesuit priest had to say on the matter:

Well, there is certainly something to be said for being in a community. I know several well-meaning people who have gone off the deep end because they reject any kind of input from others. Having a community of people who are there to support, encourage and spur you on to good is fantastic--and probably even necessary to keep us going ( ... )

I agree that it's good to find a community, but I can also understand why people don't. Finding a community with whom you fit can be very difficult, so I think a lot of people give it up all together. I think a lot of people who say they are 'spiritual but not religious' would do well at someplace like a UU church, but many of them don't know such a place exists.

Anyway, I wasn't devaluing community, I was just more peeved at the comments that the priest made. It seems to me that he really hasn't talked to people about why they would feel this way. And maybe the lack of listening is part of the problem.

That's why I identify as Jedi, I just have a very low medichlorian rating.
