I'd written a post about how the taller windmills are killing thousands of bats. It looks like there may be another way to handle the bat problem. Some researchers at the University of Aberdeen think that radar may be an effective means of keeping bats from windmills. Hope they do too, but for now they should consider restricting large windmills from key migration routes. I wonder if the wake behind the windmill attracts migrating insects and/or if the blade noise provides an additional means to locate insects, either attracting bats to the danger zone.

Even if they "solve" the bat problem, there is still the bird problem.
