I dropped AP US History course in the middle of my junior year. Some of it was because the teacher rubbed me the wrong way, some of it was because I felt like I was doing a lot of work which wasn't providing me any useful information. Well gosh, maybe if they had better finanical aid they'd be better able to attend and complete college!

Money isn't the entirety of the picture for most people, but without it, there's no way even the most determined students can go.

I was so lucky that no one in my high school ever said something like that. Everyone was encouraged to apply to college, no matter what. No one ever said to me that I couldn't go to college, even though we didn't have two dimes to rub together.

I think if that teacher had been at my school, he would have been fired. The principal at the time did not tolerate idiots.

My parents were horribly worried about this, and it was comments like that of my teacher that pushed me very hard to get good grades. But yeah, I agree. The guy was really a jerk and that comment was the last straw for me.

Thanks for posting the original article. It's funny how I ended up learning about something that directly affected me, but I knew nothing of the history.
