Global warming and permafrost methane

Mike was reading a sci-fi book (was it Stephen Baxter? I can't remember) where they discuss melting of permafrost due to global warming causing release of huge amounts of methane. Methane is another green house gas, and this would be pretty catastrophic in terms of climate change.

And oddly there was a "Loss of permafrost causing methane gas crisis" ticker on the daily news show yesterday morning.

I'm going to read that article now. Which might make everything I said before this sentence somewhat moot ;)
