The problem you run into is, how do you decide what constitutes "being a good person"?

Perhaps Hannibal Lecter feels that being a good person means eating a census taker's liver with a nice chiante instead of a merlot. However, the rest of society would not consider that as being a good person. But by your logic above, we should leave Hannibal alone because, hey, he's trying to be a good person according to his own beliefs and values, and putting him in prison would be imposing our beliefs on him.

BTW, have you ever read C.S. Lewis' Space trilogy? I'm reading it right now (book 3), and it's very fun sci-fi!
