Older son and I have been talking about his evaluation at school, and I did come out and tell him that the psychologist thinks he's an Aspie ( Read more... )

Maybe once he sees his grades going up and feeling better about himself, then all this other stuff will just resolve itself. One can only hope.

I've had so many teachers tell me that my son is lazy, not listening in class, doodling, etc. Did you ever think that he needs to doodle to be able to pay attention? My son's Spanish teacher is psycho too. So I understand.

My oldest may have to take Algebra I over again next year because how they taught it in seventh and eighth grade. Luckily the high school he's going to administers a test to determine where he needs to be instead of just assuming like the middle school did. They put him in the lowest class in middle school. He literally phoned it in it was so easy. This year he has a teacher that really doesn't teach and doesn't give enough problems to be able to learn the concepts. Grrrr.

I think the grades going up is helping. I also am trying some different things to get him organized. I'm discovering the way they want them to operate at school is stupid. I couldn't keep organized if I had a bunch of binders I had to drag around with me. (They invented the trapper keeper for people like my son.)

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

As far as the doodling, YES! The OT talked about how he uses things like that to try to organize this thinking. (And I know it can be done because I was a chronic doodler in school.) I know it's annoying for the teachers, but it really does help him.

At least the new school tested him so that they caught it. It would've probably been horrible for him to go into the next class and be utterly lost in Algebra 2. :-/
