Apparently a judge in Cali is saying that parents cannot homeschool their children unless they have teaching credentials ( Read more... )

The law is already in place. What happened is that the state wanted to put the kids into public school because they were enrolled in a "private school" and not attending it. (There are several places that set up private schools in CA for homeschoolers. The homeschoolers more or less just send in their grades.) Anyway, they went to court. The first court said that what the parents were doing was legal. The state appealled, and the appellate court has just said it's not. (And if what these folks were doing wasn't legal, a lot of them aren't.)

So now it's up to the state supreme court (I believe) to either uphold the decision or strike it down.

Cali law is a really huge mess. :-P Makes me very glad I don't live there anymore.
