Does it have to be total solitary confinement?

We found that scooping out the litter box daily and keeping the kitty confined over night alone in the small bathroom (with the litter box) helped our Tiger cat to use his box and stop peeing on things outside of it. We did this for about a month and he seems to be doing much better now. Either that or he's hiding it a lot better!

The vet was pretty explicit that it had to be solitary confinement. For one thing, we have to figure out if it's because the other cat was using the same box or if she has a preference for going on the floor or what. (I did find out that she won't go on aluminum foil, but we can't cover the floor in that...and if we did, she might go on the carpet.) There are a lot of things we have to figure out, and allowing her out and/or the other cat in will really complicate things. Also, she did fine when she was in a kennel by herself when we were in Hawaii ( ... )
