writing skills any more are abysmal. I ended up going off on my nursing students when they turned in papers with not only the medical terms spelled wrong but regular english words

Sense = centz I can't even remember how they misspelled artery, beginning and tubing but it was horrendous. I pointed out that their nursing notes are legal documents and if it goes to court and they look like third graders they could easily lose the court battle

Girls, especially young ones, are socialized to doubt themselves. The reason they don't sound sure of what they're saying is that, most of the time, they aren't.

I can see it in my nieces, and it breaks my heart. Their parents are constantly telling them not to yell at each other. I say, let them yell! It's the only time they're sure of anything!

I know. It's horrible. But it seems extreme to take it into written word.

Because we're taught that, as women, it's our job to be pretty and sexually available, and not smart? And men don't like it when girls, even if they're not smart, are sure of themselves? Because it's rude to stick to your guns, because a woman's role is to be supportive, even if you know you're going down with the SS Stupid? Because we have been taught to question our voices to such a point that we are literally unable to even speak without lilting every sentence with a question mark?

It's a sad state of affairs, baby.

Yes, I'm aware of why women do it and it is a sad state of affairs.

Still, this is something that women can empower themselves with fairly easily in the scheme of things (in other words, it doesn't take anyone else's cooperation and for the vast majority of people there aren't really a lot of negative consequences).
