Hivemind: Cylindrical Tins?

Mar 23, 2011 15:13

I'm looking for a relatively water-tight (needn't be perfect) cylindrical container, ~2.5" in diameter, and ~1.5-2" in height, opening at the top.

This is to contain shaving soap, both for everyday use and to travel. Plastic is ok, metal might be more fun in the long run, I don't much mind if it has brand names printed on it or mild stray aromas. ( Read more... )

I guess it depends on what you consider inexpensive but try these:

Heh. Depends how I'm feeling about my finances? Which, right now, is not very good.

Not seeing anything there with sizing info. I've been having bad luck in drug stores with soap-dishes and travel containers, surprisingly.

My first thought was the metal spice tins Alton Brown uses on Good Eats, which can supposedly be found fairly cheap at hardware or craft stores.

(Before you start wondering, you don't know me. I was flist jumping and poking around LJ at somewhat random and your post showed up. I am sorry if this is rude of me to barge in like this.)

But I am staring straight at a travelcandle, and the tins for those might work?

Anyway, I ran a search for: travel candle tin 2.5" and this (and several more) came up:

http://www.cierracandles.com/Candle-Containers-c143/
- 2.5" diameter x .9" high.
- 2.6" diameter x 1.8" high.

http://www.candlefavors.com/8-2286/Daisy-Travel-Size-Soy-Candle-Tin-Favors (10 as a minimum order)
- 4 oz. Candle Size: 2.5 x 1.75 Inches (D x H)

(That's fine. And apparently I know most of your flist to some degree of know, so you're not even a total stranger. Which would have been ok anyway.)

Thanks for the hint. The 4 oz. ones at the first site look about perfect, although shipping kills it. Definitely what I'm looking for and another sort of place to look for them.

I have heard of this mysterious substance known as golden syrup, but never actually encountered it, and I'm not sure how easy it is to find in these parts.

I hear it's like treacle, but lighter!

If I say I've never encountered treacle either are you going to say it's like golden syrup but heavier?
