So I've been reading a lot of fix-it fics for the Avengers. If you haven't watched the movie, don't know what so many of us want fixed, and don't want spoilers, then go out and watch the movie right now.

However, there's one fix-it story that I haven't been able to find, that I would really like to read, so if anyone has any recommendations, please

Oh this is fascinating, and would be tricksy balancing the insight of SHIELD agents (Natasha and Clint) versus the mourning of Steve, Tony, Bruce (but mostly Tony and Pepper) - and because you have to have a reveal: how do they all reconcile it, without blowing the cover of *other* 'retired' SHIELD agents. (Or heck, just blame it publicly on Asgardian magic and move on.)

I'm also immediately reminded of Barbara Gordon as Oracle (and what I wouldn't give for that crossover: forget Batman, just give me her and Dick Grayson interacting with the Avengers: as if Natasha and Pepper aren't critical mass for kick-ass red-heads already!) - the role that she plays is nominally the purview of JARVIS, but Coulson and JARVIS could certainly play well off each other...

A lot of the fix-it fics have people yelling at Fury for being a coldblooded bastard for lying to everyone, so he may set up the reveal to get that exact reaction. The civilians all think it was just Fury being Fury, while the agents all know that Fury is simply taking the blame so that he doesn't have to explain. Plus, it doesn't do his reputation any harm to be thought a cold-blooded bastard.

Although, the more I think on it, the less sure I am about how well the theory of SHIELD retirement would actually work because it would also leave the agents without closure. No one would ever know if their friend was actually dead or not. So maybe there's some insider code to let people know what the situation actually is.

Hah! A story introducing Barbara, Natasha and Pepper would be awesome. I can just imagine it as a sort of inverse Bechdel Test issue: none of the guys would be able to have conversations about anything other than the BAMF redheads, while the BAMF red-heads are all talking about hair care or crime or something.

Here's a fic where Coulson survives but does not come back in perfect health. He moves on and is still awesome. The focus is on Barton's relationship with him.
