ssh keys

So, since everyone on Debian/Ubuntu systems should be busily redoing their ssh keys today, I thought I'd write a post about ssh keys. (Some parts of this post will be ubuntu specific, but keys can be used with Putty too under Windows, where Pageant, which comes with Putty, takes the role of ssh-agent. Running through the update process appears to have already moved the host keys and generated new ones for me. Hooray?

Yes, that evening, after I wrote that, they published another ssh update that automatically regenerated the keys. (In fact, there's been another update after that too...)

The rest of the post still holds though.
