Advice, plz!

Okay guys, do I watch the US remake of Life on Mars? On the one hand, I'm ever-so-slightly curious in a somewhat masochistic way. On the other hand, my blood pressure is high enough from ranting at my television this election season.

I think it might be best for my health if I continue to try to pretend that it doesn't exist. What say you people?

help!, life on mars

It wasn't bad. Gene takes some getting used to, I'll warn you that much. The verdict is still out on that one. He isn't terrible but he ain't Philip Glenister, and it shows. Weirdly, although I had flashes of missing John Simm, I didn't miss him as much as I missed Glenister.

However, there are some things I liked. I will watch next week for a better idea.

NO ONE SHALL EVER REPLACE GLENISTER AS THE GUV.

Actually, it only just crossed my mind that Gene wouldn't be called "Guv" in an American remake. o_O

I'm going to at least wait another week, and see what people on my flist think of episode 2, I think.

I can't decide if I'd be MORE or LESS likely to watch it if I knew it was a total train wreck. It sounds like it is not as spectacularly FAILTASTIC as it could be, though, at least so far, and I can't decide if that makes me feel relieved or disappointed. :\

Ah I exactly know what you mean ! The reviews have been not so bad on my flist as well and I still don't know if I should let myself expect it not to suck XD

Give it a look. I thought it was reasonably good. If you don't like it, though? Easy enough to stop watching, and nothing about it warrants a reaction near yelling at the tv screen. After all, it's just a show. Politics, OTOH... Not good on the blood pressure.

That is sound and sensible advice. :) I shall try to chill and not be offended by the show, you know, existing.

I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW.

ALTHOUGH, IF IT HAD THE LINE, "IT'S 1973. ALMOST DINNER TIME. I'M HAVING SPAGHETTIO'S" I WOULD LOLOLOL.

i'd say wait a few weeks for the writers to stop copying the bbc scripts. i think the show's going to get a lot better the more it starts to steer away from the original, and given the trailer for next week, that ain't happening for a while yet at least.

as others have said, there were definitely some good moments. but the parts where they copied the real show line for line and shot for shot did some very bad things to my blood pressure. :P

I SO hear what you've been saying re: the characters' names. I think I'd be much more inclined to try it if they just gave the characters DIFFERENT NAMES OMG. I don't know why that bugs me so irrationally, but I just know it's going to be SO SO jarring to hear Jason O'Mara referred to as "Sam Tyler". ARGH.

i think i might just be able to bear it if they kept the series name - i can see them wanting to use it to draw in a bigger viewership - as long as they change the freaking character names.

honestly, it's like buying a nice big lovely candy bar because the wrapper said 'cadbury's', only to realise someone's replaced it with a hershey bar. the irritation is twofold: not only did it steal the name, it's pretending to be something that it's not. i say just call it a hershey bar: some people prefer them to cadbury's anyway. (WRONG people, true, but the point still stands)
