Poll on thermostat settings

OMG, I'm so sorry to everyone I owe e-mail to, but life has been even crazier than usual (and that's saying a lot). OTOH, it's also been mostly the good crazy, so I'll take it.

I dunno if it's peri-pre-menopause or what, but I am always HOT. Not flashes, but just hot. Mike is always complaining that he's cold, while I'm sweltering. In the car in the winter I have to take off my coat so I won't roast while he tries to warm up (Maybe it's just me, but the girls sleep in their undies with the covers thrown off...). Yesterday he sent me the email/automatic payment thing for the electricity last month, showing me how much it was because I kept turning it cooler. He "winked", but I thought "Fine, I'll cook while you stay comfortable!" :P

:D

Me too re: Hot All The Time. UGH. I'm almost certain it's peri-menopause, though, as my family goes very early (thank gods).

I'm like that all the time, too.

Then again, I've been like this since the day I was born. Maybe I'll get cold when I hit menopause. Please...make it so. Please.

I'm not really sure if it's good for the air conditioner or the environment, but when it's hot as in 80F+ I'll run the air conditioner until it gets down to 70F and then turn it off.

(and I also keep the house a little cooler/warmer than I might to keep Dad comfortable.)

Our house doesn't have enough insulation, being in the South where they don't think about such. So, in the winter when it's really cold it's pointless to turn up the heat past 70, it doesn't help. And in the summer when it's insane-o-hot, it's mostly pointless to turn it down lower than 73 or so, because even with fans it doesn't help much.

When it's humid or a bad air quality day outside, I have to have air conditioning or else I can't breathe. I refuse to feel guilty for that.

Also note: The temperature I set my thermostat to has absolutely no bearing on the function of my HVAC unit or the temperature in my apartment. I essentially have two settings: on and off. My answer was based on an idealized condition.

For some reason, even though I'm really skinny, I can handle the cold much better than I can handle hot weather. I've had heatstroke requiring a trip to the hospital several times. It used to drive me nuts that my parents would refuse to turn on the air con before Memorial Day, even if it was so hot that we had to sleep downstairs.
