Jeff came through his surgery fine. Three arteries were bypassed (they were so bad they weren't candidates for stents) and he's recovering fairly well. I was at the hospital for 11 hours. ::eyes cross:: Rachel is doing as well as can be expected. (Which is to say freaking out :D ( Read more... )

Oh, wince. That's a day at the hospital, all right.

The ants are awful this year...lot of cool rainy days here that I'm blaming. I hate finding a couple on the kitchen counter while I'm cooking.

Hope the dentist can do you something better for pain relief.

Yup, fun day at the hospital. Oh goody. And here's hoping the dentist has an answer that doesn't involve further extractions...

Good news about your friend. You are a very good friend, being at the hospital so long when you have so much else to do.

Poison isn't your only option to control the ants. There's an ant-killing spray made with mint oil, nontoxic to humans and pets (brand name Victor) that you can spray around the baseboards, on counters, etc. People I know have sprinkled cinnamon to keep ants away, and report that it's impressively effective. Citrus peel is another ant deterrent. There's stuff you can sprinkle around the house outside (assuming it's easier to keep Barak away from the house foundation outside than away from ant bait inside). You can put ant bait in inaccessible places, like drawers and cupboards, and use the nontoxic methods where Barak might get into stuff.

And that reminds me, I saw a couple of anthills in the front garden. I need to go on a killing spree so they don't get into the house.

::sigh:: I might look into those other options, because the boy really does try to eat everything. Argl.

And I hope my being at the hospital helped. But of course I was there. That's what friends do. ::shrug::

Doing "what friends do" without thinking it's a Big Deal -- your price is above rubies. Seriously.

::blush:: Hey, I had a lot of folks sit with me when I was in the hospital. Gotta pay it forward and all that.

I have had some luck with baking soda as an ant deterrent. In my case, I knew the places they were getting in, so I filled those spots with baking soda and covered the most-used trails along the edge of the room with it for another foot or so.
