Title: "A Certain Affinity" Rating: G Warnings: None Characters: Mara Jade, Han Solo Pairings: None Keywords: Canon, missing scene, friendship, character study
Summary: Mara’s not one of them, exactly, but she’s not an outsider.
This is brilliant. You really don't see enough Han and Mara fic, which is a shame, really, because they bounce so well of each other. I loved that they found a common ground here in regards to the Force - it makes perfect sense that Han would relate his children's situation with hers. I also like the fact that maybe the kids would choose to be something other than Jedi, which I can see Han wondering about. They are both characterised so well here - I really get the feeling they have some sort of understanding, or subtle camaraderie.
“I trust the lightsaber was thoroughly cleaned later?” She was regarding her belt with a new suspicion.
“Yeah, Luke cleaned it while he was in the infirmary. He got suddenly rather ungrateful about the Tauntaun innards in the control mechanisms. Weird.”
Hee! I can see Luke getting a bit huffy about that.
I always thought it must be a bit of a downer to find out you have Force powers if you were really set on doing something else. What if Jacen had wanted to be a HoloNet star? You wonder. :p
I'm pleased to hear that they do come across as having that recognition - in a way, I think they share some characteristics that the others don't. They're both pragmatic, but do have a strong sense of honour and loyalty.

I can totally imagine Luke being really particular about his lightsaber, keeping it nice and shiny, treating it with reverance... and Han uses it, basically, to eviscerate a Tauntaun. Needs must and all. :p
Thats one of the things that I end up seeing about those who are in my opinion the 4 main characters, (Luke/Mara, Han/Leia) that at first glance you want to say hey they are set up to be the opposite of x
