Okayyy so for my friend i'm going to ask a question that's probably been addressed plenty of times. Does the weapon speed actually matter when casting magic? Cause my friend is torn between wands and staves. Yeah ( Read more... )

Nope, just Hands and the actual way the spell works.

But there's really no "torn between"...it's not like there's Wand Mastery or something. Just get the new weapon every time they level.

Some people with too much time on their hands on sw.net did some testing and they found that for F/P mages, they are able to cast explosion faster when equipped with Evil Wings compared with other mage weapons. In a 30 second period of time, a F/P mage equipped with Evil Wings could cast explosion 21 times while a F/P mage equipped with a different weapon could only cast explosion 16 times. There was an unconfirmed rumor that thunderspear could be cast faster if equipped with Evil Wings versus another mage weapon.

If you doubt it, you can always test it yourself. ^.^

Personally, I think wands are better. Wand scrolls cost less than staff scrolls. That's good enough for me when magic attack is on the same scale. What I mean by that is a magic weapons avg magic attack is level+15 (lev 55 thorns has 70 base magic attack, lev 85 kage has 100 base magic attack, lev 88 magicodar has 103 base magic attack, etc).

i was just about to mention that SW.net thingy. i'd be interested to see if it's true or not (and if my F/P makes it that high, i might play with it).

nice use of the word "staves". Always love to see people correctly pluralizing things.

i prefer staves, since they're bigger and flashier (look at my stick! haha!). except for unconfirmed rumours about Explosion (see above), attack speed doesn't affect casting speed, only a physical blow.
