Finally hit level 30 and got my second job placement with my very first char. *cheers* I decided to go with a fighter (warrior) because I love the look of holding a huge axe or sword. The only problem now is I don't know which weapon I'm going to stick with... an axe or a sword. Being new to Maple Story and all I'm a bit blindsided since I don't ( Read more... )

Ah, I'm on Scania. I get a lot of comments that I should be on a different server but the person who got me playing is on Scania.

I was thinking of going with 2-h, I like big weapons, haha. But yeah, as I said, I really like the look of a huge 2-h axe, but I figured the 2-h swords were more easy to come by since I see a lot of people with them (also figured maybe there's more good 2-h swords than 2-h axes).

here's my take on it (keep in mind i've never been interested in Fighters or axes... this is just my understanding of the basic facts of gameplay and the economy):

swords:
+ higher minimum damage
+ more stable damage (does "100%" either stabbing or slashing)
- lower maximum damage
- MUCH more popular, and therefore more expensive
- scroll prices are insanely high

axes:
+ higher maximum damage
+ less popular, therefore cheaper
+ scroll prices are actually affordable for unfunded characters
- lower minimum damage
- less stable damage (something like 140% if slashing, 80% if stabbing)

For average prices of items - Do not Use Basil Market. Their prices are so off. Either way too low (good place to buy from) or insanely high. I was talking to a friend who was trying to sell a 60% polearm scroll for two mil, cause that's the price one was listed for on Basil Market. It's ridiculous.

If you look on Sleepwood and other Maple sites you might come across a list of how much scrolls and common equips are worth. But prices fluctuate. Unless lists are updated frequently, you could rip yourself off big time. I sold my first 60% staff scroll about a year ago = 1 mil. Then they dropped to about 600k each, went up to 1mil again, and then dropped to 800-900k, and now up above 1.5mil, but seem to be falling.

Mostly that pricing just comes from experience and browsing the Free Market. If you have a few friends who have played the game for a while that also helps.

xD This is the classic example of Hidden-Street.Net Syndrome.

You look at the three classes and see a pretty sword for Fighter and an ugly mace for Page.

But Pages are Swords/Blunt Weapons. :(

I never said the other weapons were ugly, I see it more as a "I had a rogue on WoW with two huge ass swords and loved it" syndrome. *cough*

Are you funded? If you're low on meso... Go axe. Insanely cheap... you can spend very little on your weapons... and then scroll them insanely cheaply for great damage. Ok, you will sometimess hit for a little less... which may mean it'll take you longer to One Hit Kill certain monsters 100% of the time... but it's cheap cheap CHEAP. On average, it'll be about the same anyway.

If you have the meso to spare, then swords. The more stable damage is great... I personally think the swords look a lot better, but that's only aesthetics... and it's pretty much down to taste. You'll be able to OHK certain monsters sooner, because you don't have a lower minimum damage, but your max damage won't quite be as high with axes. Scrolling your weapons to decent weapon attacks will cost you a lot... especially if scrolling goes wrong, but again... if you're funded, that doesn't matter too much. You'll only really be scrolling weapons past level 50 anyway. I didn't bother before then. Too costly, and it doesn't take long to level.
