A few questions.

Sorry if I ask a lot of questions, I'm just getting started at MS. Anyways. I seem to be having troubles with money. I can just barely pass through upgrading my weapons/armor as I level. And I mean barely, last time I had 24 mesos left over. I'm only level 21, so maybe it's just because I haven't gotten far in the game, but I feel like i'm missing ( Read more... )

1) don't upgrade your armour every 5 levels. you will be broke all the time. i usually take a level 10 set, a level 20 set, and then a level 30 or 35 set (depending on how ugly the level 20 armour is =P ) i always get the new weapon (unless i'm using something scrolled) though, for max damage.

2) certain monsters drop certain ores, so you have to know what you're hunting. check a help site for drop lists... and use a mule to "bank" any ores you don't need right away, and to sell ores you'll never need.

3) scroll %'s are the chance that they work. if you look at the scrolls, you'll see that lower 10% scrolls give a bigger bonus than 60%, and 60% gives more than 100%.

it's not often that i get to give advice in this comm... now i feel smart! =P

Alright, thank you bunches :)
Are the ores really that important to get? Because I feel as if by the time I get them, they'll be worthless.

it depends on what you want.

look at the Item Synthesis section on Hidden Street. it tells you what items need what ores, so you can plan ahead.

if you notice that, say, Emeralds are never used for your job (or a job you're interested in starting later), then you can sell those ores. stores buy them for 150 i think, but players will pay 1-3k for them if you have a store permit (NX Cash item).

if you see a helm that you just have to have when you get to whatever level, then start planning a bit. if Pigs drop an ore you need for it, spend some time fighting them, even after they stop giving the best xp for training.

It depends. Depending on what class you're playing, you'll need ores to make and/or upgrade new armor. Plus you need certain ores for quests, or items needed for certain quests(i.e. Star Rocks and Moon Rocks).

I kinda disagree with the comment above about not upgrading your armor and weapons every 5 lvls. In my opinion, the reason why you prolly find yourself behind on mesos is because you aren't training on the right things. Make sure you are training on monsters that you can either 1-hitko or 2-hit ko. Anything else will most likely be wasting your mp pots and thats prolly where all your money is going and is prolly why you can't afford your armors. Also, try to keep an eye out for people selling armors for cheap etc. Those are sometimes good deals, just remember to check hidden-street.net to make sure they are average stats and not below average stats ( ... )

it's not so much whether you can afford it though... it's a question of spending wisely.

honestly, how much difference will you notice if you upgrade your armour and have 10 more WDef? IMO, it just isn't worth the expense.

if you can find something cheaply from another player, then go for it... but it's not worth spending 18,300 mesos to upgrade from Cloth Vest to Nightshift (taking Rogue as an example), even if you do get half of it back when you sell the set back. 18k is a lot of money at level 15 if you're unfunded... and if you are, why not invest it in something more useful like new stars?

Correct. If you're fighting stuff where you need that much WDEF or are using pots, YOU ARE FIGHTING THE WRONG THING.

The "upgrade every time" argument makes sense on level 40 and beyond.

If you're running low on mesos, I suggest ditching your main character for a moment and creating a Ice/Lightning Wizard or a Cleric. These characters make money fast. :P

mmmm if its your very first char, try to avoid buying pots too much. if youre on broa, i can help you get to aqua and get the chair:) other then that, when I had my first char I had mesos issues too, but then once I hit 25 it was less of a problem. When I restarted my char, it was even easier because she was already funded:) So dont be worried!

What class and server are you? like i said, if you're on broa i would be more then willing to help you out. IGN Spari

I don't think I can contribute much other that to agree with what others have said. I'm level 26 and it took me until about level 24 to realise why I wasnt making a ton of money. It's as others have said, spending tooooooo much on potions because I was trying to kill creatures that took too many hits to kill. I would try to kill fire boars, which I could. In about 7 MP hits. lol and it would use almost a whole MP potion. So I am trying to stick to the boring old blue mushrooms and stumps and horny mushrooms etc now even though its dull because I can kill them without using MP. One or two normal hits and they are dead instead of 7 MP hits. So right now I am stuck in the same place you are.. I cant upgrade my clothes etc as Im too broke. hopefully at level 30 ( ... )
