I really feel like punching something. What the hell is wrong with the world? Can't they see this man is not gonna stop UNTIL THERE IS NOTHING LEFT? until there are no resources left for him to burn through on his thirst for power? So, I've turning this over in my head the entire day because I wanted to give you a coherent enough answer, something solid. And then I realized, impossible task, I'm too emotionally involved at the moment, and it feels pretty raw still, not even 24 hours after the fact.

When I was younger I couldn't really understand why would anybody want to make a president out of a man who'd staged a semi-successful coup, who'd been in prison and only got out because he was pardoned, his sentence wasn't even fully served. After he won I got a taste of the reason, social dissatisfaction. The idea that those who were not living in the poorest of conditions were not real citizens of the country, and that those who were indeed in emergency situation had no chance of ever crawling out of it. Chavez came on promoting this ideal of egalitarianism and I admit, for a little while I was sold, but his equality was not such in terms of resources and opportunities as much as it was some twisted Robin Hood crusade, steal from the rich and make the poor ( ... )

Part of the reason why I became so close with my best friend was because he, like me, was an alien at a very young age, and children can be cruel. In time we came to be a part of the social make up of our school and further, the community; Venezuela is a bowl of mixed ethnicities, we were not the only transplant family in the tiny little town where we ended up. We were common occurrence.

Imagine how painful it is for me to go back to that place I consider a home, and face rejection and racism I never experienced before, see how low it has fallen, how streets and schools are vandalized, how people get mugged at all hours on very public places, how kidnapping young children as become a cock fight between local gangs. To fear for my life when walking down a street two blocks away from my house, and not even entirely because I'm American, but also because I got to go to school and have private social security. I'm supportive of the Imperialism they so loathe simply because my parents worked hard to get us these commodities. I'm not ( ... )
