My friend was talking to me about this stupid boy and she said that to me in this really interesting environmental metaphor for what my situation was like. It was something along the lines of 'Sometimes it's just like oil. It's not good for anything, and now we're fighting war with the country that provides it, but we need it because our society is based on it.' It just made me love her ten times more.

I sort of took that to mean "like oil and water." As in, you have an oil and water relationship with them.

Obviously, I was completely wrong, hehe.
