I honestly don't know if I'll buy Postcards from a Young Man. I've sort of become more of a Richey-ite than I realised, maybe most of Nicky's more modern lyrics just don't appeal to me as much, but the album doesn't hold as much attraction for me as, for example, JFPL.
The secret is that I feel really bad this. I don't know why I'm hung up on the writing of a dead guy.
You don't have to feel that guilty. I know what you mean, I'm kind of bummed that we have to go back to Nicky's stuff as well, just 'cause, to be blunt, he doesn't have the crazy kind of writing talent that Richey did. And he tends to get stuck on the same spectrum of subjects, whereas with Richey's lyrics I'm always surprised with what he could come up with. But I would try to be optimistic about the new album because--and I'm not sure if you agree--I think JFPL really showed the Manics coming back into the game, musically (lyrically, it was a given obv). I was really delighted by it anyways. I have faith that they can come up with something fresh and significant again :)
