Twilight

I feel like crap.

I got back from the movie around 3:45, asleep by 4.

I was wide awake at 7:30 this morning.

And I can't even look at food or even my morning cup of tea.

I really hope I'll be able to fall back asleep. I feel really bad, though, because it's my mom's birthday today, too.

Though, I would like to say a few words about Twilight. ( Read more... )

It's pretty obvious that all of this is metaphor for sex/losing your virginity. I mean, he is a vampire, after all, the most sexualized of literary/mythological creatures; and she really, really wants to have sex with him as the books go on. He only resists because of my aforementioned reason that he thinks he would literally love her to death.

I don't think it's so much an SM dynamic as a "love and lust make you lose control and give over to a reckless abandon". Edward is incredibly protective of Bella, yes, but it's not a dominant/submissive thing. And neither of them think they deserve the other, really; she's hung up on that he's beautiful and excels at everything while he's hung up on her purity and fragility. And Bella and Edward realize their relationship is not normal. She even ends up realizing she has a mortal soul mate with whom she would have had an incredibly happy life had Edward died in 1918 as he should have. The story basically says, "This relationship is pure fantasy; vampires aren't real and the pull of these ( ... )

Thanks, love. I'm doing better now after pseudo-napping for a while. At least I could eat when I woke up. But I'm making it an early night.

I didn't read the book (I'm reading it right now, actually) but I saw the movie this morning. I had no preconceived notions of what the movie should be, so I was entertained and happy with the way things were. I thought the cinematography in the film were absolutely amazing, and whoever the director of photography was, that person is a genius!!

Can't wait to really get into the book!

I have always wanted to visit the Seattle area and this movie just reaffirmed it. It was absolutely stunningly beautiful scenery in this movie (and you're so right about the cinematography taking full advantage!). And so serene! It might get cold, but so does Jersey and it's not nearly as lush and green here.

I like the books despite myself. I don't think they are well written, but they have this undeniable emotion pull. I compare them to junk food; you know they aren't good for you, but they just taste so damn good that you don't care! Plus, it reminds me of being 15 again, which is fun. :)

So, how bad will it be for one who has not read the books? The homo-erotic aspect sounds wonderful, if nothing else ;)

It's a fun movie. You don't need to have read the book(s) to get what's going on, either. If nothing else, it's good for some giggles and the leads do a good job and are both gorgeous to look at. Though, while the homoeroticism was much more pronounced than in the books, it wasn't Anne Rice level. But considering the books, a furtive glace of half a heartbeat between two guys would be more homoerotic. ;)
