Jul 08, 2007 15:47

Seeing as Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows will be released a week from Saturday (!!) and because the New York Times OpEd Section has Five Ways to End Harry Potter as their lead article this weekend, I thought I'd jot down my predictions:

What will happen?!? )

Everyone's working up to a near frenzy the closer it is to the 21st (My birthday btw. What a present, the last HP book *sniff*.). You can almost hear everyone panting in anticipation. LOL

I read somewhere, and I can't remember where but it had to be something on The Leaky Cauldron, that the last word of the book is not scar. That was what Jo had said for a long time it was going to be but it ended up not being so.

As for your predictions, like you and me, a lot of people are hoping Sirius is not really dead. I don't hold out for that. I just hope that Lupin doesn't end up dead thus making the complete end of the Marauders. This very much worries me.

One theory I've read that hold a spark of possibility for me is that Harry's sacrifice is not his life, but his powers. He defeats Voldemort but at the cost of his being a wizard.

It's going to be interesting, whatever happens. It's also going to be very bittersweet reading the book knowing it's the last.

Oh Lord - If Lupin dies, I'll be a *wreck*. He's my absolute favorite character (a lot of crossover between him and Louis de Pointe du Lac, I think), and if he dies and Sirius really is dead, I'll be so terribly upset.

But, one of the reasons I think Sirius isn't dead is just simply *how* he "died". It didn't seem so much a death as he was transported somewhere else, and, seeing as one of the tasks so common for the Hero with a Thousand Faces is Traveling to the Underworld, I think that's where he might be. Besides, as my icon says, death by drapery is such a lame way for such a basass character to go.

As for the last word not being "scar", I'm going to have to now force myself not to skip ahead when I get the book next week. And that's awesome that it comes out on your birthday. Great present indeed!

If Lupin dies I don't know what I'll do. That is one spoiler I'd really like to have, even much more than the actual end to the story because I'm going to be on pins and needles until I know he's OK.

One thing I know, there will be a few tricks and twists to come. Jo always surprises with her books and I can only imagine she's got some wowzers in the last.

But she does worry me. She writes without sympathy for her characters. She's a very honest writer in that respect. If they should die they will, no matter what anything feels about it, including herself.

I really like your idea of the Muggle world and Wizarding world meshing together, but Rowling would have to do a *lot* of expository writing to establish her version of the Muggle world (because you know she would). And the book is only about 750 pages or so. I mean, the only Muggles we really encounter are the Dursleys and their associates (Aunt Marge, the Americans over for dinner in CoS), Hermione's parents, and the Muggle Prime Minister, and Rowling has said she hasn't introduced any new characters in this book. Granted, with the Muggle PM, there might be something there, but I feel there is just *so* much left to tie up otherwise that she just doesn't have the space. But hell - if the ending sucks and we go for the bonfire, you and I can rewrite the end where the whole world gangs up on Voldy and kicks his ass ( ... )

Okay, I'm glad you agree with me on this one. When I saw it in his mp3 folder I was kind of, "Weh?". Then I listened to it and was even more "Weh?!". Maybe I can find out who it is through Google or LastFM (which you should join, btw).

Hmmm...a rebounded AK would be pretty unexpected, I must say. But I doubt she'd do it. You and I would like it, but every other HP fan on the planet would want to kill her for a rehash. ;)

Oh, I know she's going to blow us all away; I bet none of what I think is going to happen will actually come through.

And I thought you might want to know: I just spent the last, like, 2 and a half hours researching mythological female demigods (Greek nymphs, Hindu apsarases, Islamic houri, Japanese kami, and Norse valkyries and norns) and the Lord of the Rings universe on Wikipedia. I need to take a break from reading fantasy after DH comes out because it takes over my brain.
