We didn't land on Sherwood Forest; Sherwood Forest landed on us!

Robin Hood is of the awesome! Medieval swashbuckling, tongue-in-cheek, and a Joseph Fiennes-y Robin. Oh, BBC - you are too, too good to me. :D

And all this after having earlier watched the still unequalled Adventures of Robin Hood with Errol Flynn on TMC and on the news that Russell Crowe will be playing the Sherrif of Nottingham in the in- ( Read more... )

Dude, you do realize that Nottingham is revisionist, right? In that Robin is meant to be like a murderer and the Sheriff is trying to apprehend? Which of course means they'll cast Cillian Murphy and I'll WANT evil!Robin?

Oh boo! You can't seriously make Robin Hood evil. It just won't go over at.all with anyone. I mean, I now understand more why Russell Crowe has signed on for the Sheriff (because no one could do the evil!Sheriff as awesomely as Alan Rickman), but that still doesn't change that everyone loves that woodland do-gooder rake with the heart of gold.

And I don't like the idea of Cillian Murphy as Robin. I banish it from my brain.

It totally would go over well with me. That makes me so excited! Actually, Robin's origin is in purely thievery that is linked closely with homoeroticism. It's viewed as bad until the 1400's? or so! So! I totally would dig it. Plus I like the bad guys better anyway.

Can't say I ever knew that, honestly. My familiarity with the Robin Hood legends always stated that they were performed in the halls of rich nobles by the commoners as a kind of gentle warning to be kind to the serfs on their land.

But, then again, Will Scarlet is a "big poof" on Blackadder, so I guess the homoeroticism is understandable. Just as long as Robin's hot (and I don't much like Cillian Murphy anyway, so...).
