Surgery is sometimes an option for certain patients, but generally people with this type of sleep apnea are able to correct the situation with something called CPAP therapy. CPAP stands for "Continuous Positive Air Pressure" - basically, the problem with OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) is that when you sleep, your body's muscle tone relaxes. In some people, the muscles and other tissues in the nose and/or throat relax too much, causing the airway to close up ( ... )

Well, I am glad the surgery isn't required and I hope the mask helps! Kudos to you for actually getting the sleep study done and taking care of business. I remember her telling me about how you would stop breathing at night and how much it scared her.
