Do I need to have seen that episode to be able to read the story?

Uhmm... Actually, I think you'll pick up a lot of the story of "2010" while you read it. It's set in a mythical future for SG-1. Also, the crux of the Ness's story doesn't depend on you knowing what happened. Yeah - give it a try.
