New year's review post o'doom

Jan 12, 2008 17:36

So, I haven't posted for a while. Sorry, sorry. I've been settling into to life back at school. (More on that in another post.) However, I have been keeping tabs on the events of the past week or so and jotting down some commentary too ;)

Consider this your opportunity to catch up on or re-enjoy all of the recent bandom insanity.

This Week ( Read more... )

Hi! I recently added you as a friend, so. *waves*

Concerning 1, oh MFY. That would be amazing, I think.

Yes to everything else you have said. I, too, am surprised that I legitimately, unironically like the new Panic stuff. My favorite is also "When the Day Met the Night". I keep listening to it over and over and singing random snippets and so on.

Haha, with all of the new music drama, I had almost forgotten the Brendon-as-crackwhore drama. I am with you; I just take it with a grain of salt and chalk it up to never knowing for sure.

Hey! It's very nice to meet you indeed!

Hopefully the fic actually does get written. I'm surprised by how many people have expressed interest in it. "Original character" is a dirty word around these parts most of the time.

And YES! The unironic love shocked me. I've had the HCT songs/videos on repeat for the past few days! Granted, it does sound uncomfortably similar to the Beatles (for which they will get quite a bit of shit from critics, mark my words) but still good. Part of me does, however, does which they'd preserved more vestiges of their original sound. I suppose I should reserve judgment until I've god the album in my hands, though.

See, I don't write bandom slash, but I DO write, so I feel your pain on no one caring about original characters! I would read what you're proposing, though. I believe I have read some of your other fic and really liked it, so I'm looking forward to this.

I didn't love the first album, so I'm liking the change. However, my very first thought on hearing "We're So Starving" (what does that title even mean, anyway? I guess since it's a joke, it doesn't matter?) was "I'm pretty sure the Beatles already did this, Ryan Ross." And then on hearing "When the Day..." was, "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds part two? Eh, whatever, I still like it!"

God, I'm so sorry for all those typos. I'm so band for that. Kudos to you for being able to decipher what I was trying to say.

Ah. I loved the first album. It probably helped that I discovered it before all the hype. But I like the new stuff too. And you're so right about the Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds comment. MCR was pulled through the ringer for borrowing so heavily from classic rock bands and they pulled from a rather wide assortment.

I wonder if today's youth are even read for The Beatles Part II, lol.

Wait, whut. Where are all these songs that are supposedly so cool? D:

Also, I have got to question Ryan's sanity. Vintage can be awesome, but Ryan + classic old granny look =\= anything good. :(

The "new songs" aren't really new at all. We heard before during the festival performances this summer: still Nine in the Afternoon and Middle of Summer (now called When the Day Met the Night).

However, the seem to have been fine tuned and re-arranged. The performances at the HCT press conference actually made both the songs (especially When the Day Met the Night, I think) sound really, legitimately good. Keep your fingers crossed for the rest of the album.

Yeah. Ryan's fashion sense is loopier than a roller coaster. If I were his girlfriend I wouldn't let him out of the house.

3. I think it's because a lot of people know their fics suck, and their way of looking at people is completely out of character. Eh, whatever. If they have a problem with it, I'll stop, but otherwise nobody should take the love away.

4. That's a pretty sexy face, Jon Walker. Ow ow!

5. That Shane guy is in another band, I think. He's very familiar looking. Prototype "scemo" boy, one might say. Not that I'm complaining. ;)

If I might ask, though, why does everything on this have to do with Panic (so glad I don't have to use that ! anymore)? Just out of curiousity.

3. Hahaha. Maybe that IS it. They're all flipping their shit because they're embarrassed or something silly. None of us know the boys, though, so the vast majority of our fics would seem 100% OOC to them.

4. irk? Jon seems really into it...

5. Oh? Do you know what other band? I should really have googled him. *set out to do that immediately*

As for why everything is about Panic (sans exclamation point now, yes), that was entirely intentional. It was meant a bandom review post and I'm pretty much monogamous to Panic here. Plus, it was way too long already; if I'd started talking about other stuff I'm interested in or my life, it would have gotten out of control :D

I can't even remember what the band was called, but I know that Panic did a cameo in one of their videos, or something. A "The" band, I think.

The Cab?

He's not in that band, lol. (Pretty everyone in that band is named Alex anyhow).

(Also, why is buzznet so impossible to navigate? My Management of Information Systems prof would fail them so hard.)
I work in IT, right? And motherfuck I hate Buzznet. EPIC FAIL.

IT DRIVES ME CRAZY!

I can't even use that site because I don't understand how to access any of the content I'm interested in. Is it supposed to be designed like a maze to trap the browser into visiting as many pages as possible (and therefore view the most amount of content)? Because if so, it still fails; I just hightail it out of there asap because I get so damn frustrated. (Or maybe I'm just not the target market? I have no idea :S)

I'm a commerce student, but we do have to take some Information Systems courses and last semester I did a website deconstruction assignment. Make me look at websites on the internet in a whole new light.

Ahhh, what a good summary of the past few days... weeks? I can't tell anymore; Panic! fucked up my time.

Jon Walker is just too amazing. I have never been so jealous of a bald man before.

I can't stop listening to their new music, and even though Ryan's fashion sense makes me cringe, I'm glad he got rid of the scarf. XD

Aww, thanks. It wasn't original intended to be, I just started writing this post and was too lazy to post it so... yeah *blushes*

Jon Walker is indeed awesome. I don't understand the haters who've emerged over the past couple months. What has Jon Walker ever done to anybody, huh? :(

The disappearance of the neckerchief is much appreciate, yes, but the new style is even worse. I've seen pictures of him wearing that hideous shirt on three separate occasions, now. *cries*
