Prop 8: My thoughts.

I am so sick and tired of reading all this Prop 8 shit popping up all over the place - internet, on the streets, and in my college.

Proposition 8 was California's vote. Not Seattle's, not Boston's, not Canada's, not the EU's, etc. CALIFORNIA'S.
And guess what? It passedProtestors getting wound-up all over the USA and some in other nations won't ( Read more... )

Um, yes. But Prop 8 being passed prompted similar movements all across the country, which is why it's still such a big issue despite being technically confined to California.

Sure, Prop 8 passed, but there's no telling it'll pass again in the next general election, or that it will hold up at all, since its presence in the California Constitution directly contradicts the non-discrimination clause also present in the constitution. This isn't even an ideological clash; it's a legitimate legal fallacy.

So the fight will continue, whether you like it or not.

Quite frankly, why can't the non-discrimination law also be changed? Not saying it should, but it is an idea to be posed. (Though I do not think homosexuality should be included, myself, it is what it is). If that law changed, Prop 8 is legit. Then homosexual couples have two things to over-come.
Also, in the first place, laws in the US are full of contradictions. The only reason this one is being singled out is because certain individuals have special interest in it. Why don't we pick at every law...? There are plenty of 'legitimate legal fallacies'. At that, who says it will necessarily be over-turned? I want Row v. Wade over-turned, but God knows THAT has been disputed since its creation.

In the end, due to San Francisco, some other amendment will probably be made in the next 10 years to allow gay unions in California. I'm realistic. I know the areas and political perspectives.

Still, this constant HELP THE GAY PEOPLE and REDEFINE MARRIAGE debate in our country is growing tiresome to me. You want to be gay, fine, be gay. I do not ( ... )

Great! Let's just hop back a couple decades in the civil rights movement, back to the era of American apartheid and arbitrary discrimination against marginalized groups of people. Did you really propose that idea? Really? Are you for real, or are you trying to crack a (seriously misguided) joke?

I have read your comments back and forth here, and one thing that really got to me is your attack on Amanda's "I have gay friends card".

I would like to happily reassure you that Amanda does have gay friends and she is completely "understanding" of their situation. I am not sure how you came to this conclusion that she is not. Simply because she believes the definition of marriage should remain as it is, it means she does not comprehend the issue? Quite an ignorant conclusion. Another "I have a gay friend card" for you. My best friend is gay and does not support gay marriage.

Also, it's never a good debate when you start attacking someone on a personal level.
