[It isn't until later, when they got Desmond a room and hooked up to all the bells and whistles needed to monitor and support him, that Kate notices the messages on Desmond's phone. She hasn't replaced hers yet. Hadn't given enough fucks to do so.]
[ She's practically at the hospital. Once she calmed down enough to actually get dressed properly for heading outside she got her head out of her ass and realized 'oh, they'll be heading to the hospital. GO THERE'. And that's where she is, heading on inside to find the right room. It's the first time she's been in the hospital but she manages. Her hand shakes as she knocks on the door so she won't startle anyone just barging in.
She sees Kate's back first, blocking her view of Desmond. Once she's close enough she wraps her arms around the other woman from behind briefly in hello. But then there's just no delaying things now. Desmond's right there. And he looks terrible. She gently touches his good arm. She leans close, meaning to say "Heya Des" whether he can hear her or not but the tears start to come instead. ]
[Kate doesn't look up when Kaylee enters, knowing those quick, light footsteps just about anywhere. Kaylee reaches past her shoulder to touch Desmond and that's when Kate looks. She sees the tears brimming in the mechanic's eyes and Kate's throat tightens up on her.]
[ She tries to wipe the tears away with her free hand as they start falling but she gives that up fairly quickly. To her the assassins are just so strong. It shakes her to see Desmond like how he is. Just as it did when Clay came close to biting it.
It's tough but she does manage a very quiet "heya Des." ]
[Kate looks away when Kaylee manages her greeting. Not out of shame or that she feels like she's intruding. She just...really doesn't want to cry again.]
He will. [ She echoes with a little nod. He just had to. ] ... d-do ya need anythin'? [ It's just the two of them and Desmond. They can look out for each other while they wait. It's the thing to do. ]
Okay. [ She finally glances around at the rest of the room, spotting another visitor chair she can pull right up to Kate and Desmond. It's better than just standing there. She's not leaving them for awhile. Not until she has to. She just knows this is how it's going to be. Sit and wait and hope. ]
