Too true to real life. You're cold, Jeremy! (I must admit that it has the feel of a Russian folk tale.) It pleases me.

I once wrote a Trek fan-fic set aboard the Starship Hood, commanded by Captain Leslie Wallace. My grandfather, Leslie Wallace, served aboard the HMS Hood in the 1930s, though only as an able seaman. As you may recall, the Hood was sunk by the Bismarck in WWII. In my story the Starship Hood faced off against the Iron Chancellor (Otto Bismarck's nickname) in a sort of recration of the WWII duel, only in space. I invested a lot in the character of Captain Wallace and killed him off (heroically, of course!) at the end. I have no problem in bumping off characters if the story leads them there.

This was a silly little whimsical tale with a vein of black humour and nonsense running thorugh it and I'm glad that you (and a fair few others it seems, it put it on facebook too) liked it . . . I'm trying to get into the habit again of writing every, or nearly every, day.

It sounds like writing the Captain Wallace tale was very satisfying.

". . . I'm trying to get into the habit again of writing every, or nearly every, day. " This is VERY good to hear!

I'm experimenting with facebook; it's not right for me, yet the contact with lost friends distant relatives is also amazing and pleasing. We shall see.

Facebook has put me back in touch with people I've not seen for years - even since primary school! - and I find it convenient as well. It's also a good way, I find, to share photos etc with my friends and family.
