The Kzin aren't an "official" part of the Star Trek Universe, at least not as far as Paramount is concerned. They did appear in "the Slaver Weapon" episode of animated Trek, and I've always loved the big orange cats. I've always included them in my ST games, and this is the second time I've featured them as the main protagonist.
I used to own all of the Known Universe books, but now only have the Mote in God's Eye and the Mote Around Murchinson's Eye... granted, not Known Space books, but damned damned good none the less.
I like the final one mostly because I associate with it being in the Star Fleet Recognition manual done back in the 70's. I cant remember you going to game in the new Trek Verse?
I vote in favour of new universe because it allows you freedom to diverge on points if you choose to It also sets a good precedent for other people who may want to tackle Trek as well in the future - giving them leeway to do other alternates.
