Today Jyan and I headed down to Kmart to take advantage of their sale.  We were particularly after plants and pots,but we did a flyby the DVDs and picked up a couple of cheap ones.  I grabbed10,000 BC, which isn't a great movie, but well worth it for 12 bucks.

Next we hit the nursery.  Pots, seedlings, established plants, and potting mix.  We

I really should have a few plants around this place... Just a few pot plants on the balcony.

Whenever I've tried growing Basil, it's always died.. which annoys me, as aside from Coriander, it's my favourite herb! :-)

Basil can be a bit touchy, but it needs lots of direct sunlight and kept moist but not wet. They can suffer from lack of water really quickly. If you have th room, grow basil with tomatoes. They make great companions in a pot or patch, and the keep parasites off each other as well as improve each others flavours.

I love coriander too, I've popped some of that in my herb pot. I should be harvestig in about a mont or so, I hope. I've also got vietnamese mint, oregano, thyme, curly parsley, flat parsley, and garlic chives. Just remember that pretty much all herbs need direct sunlight for the majority of the day, and don't let them go to seed, as they will normally then die.
