Everything they told me about the first year of chemistry grad school is true. And they told me some scary things.

I just got through my first round of exams. After taking a class test on Friday evening, I got up at six on Saturday morning to take a "cume" or cumulative exam. I'd already gotten up at six last Saturday to take the same cume. We ( Read more... )

Wow, cumes. I remember vaguely hearing something about these "exams" and "classes" and whatnot when I was applying to grad schools. Then I went to the UK. Neener neener.

Yup, I opened the front door this morning holding an armload of recycling, and there's several inches of snow and more coming down. It felt like a portal to an alternate universe.
