So many good things lately. Best was a kayak paddle in a swamp near Charleston--a perfect bright clear day, no bugs, no leaves, just dark water and silver trees that rose high and slender but spread at the bottoms, like a whole ballroom full of elegant ladies in trumpet skirts. And my friend's son, a naturalist/historian, knew so many fascinating ( Read more... )

I love walking on the beach, we also have an area where the dogs can run free and swim, we used to take Charlie there.

I just watched the latest episode of 'This is Us' I am really enjoying that show.

Dogs are so much fun on the beach! Glad you get to do that. And This Is Us is a really well-written, well-acted, and interesting show. I don't see how it can go on after this season, but those writers will probably figure out a way. I hope so!

yay for good writing.

And I think I'd like to meet your friend's son. I might not be up for kayaking around but I'd love to hear the history or the area.

It is very fascinating to learn about the area. It's very old, for the New World--though I've been realizing that the French settlements in North American in Canada and the Midwest are also very old.

They are old. I don't particularly like Florida but one place I do like is St Augustine and it's for the history that I like it

Canada has some really old stuff, too. But did you know that the Spanish had a fort and village in SC that was older than St. Augustine, though abandoned and never built up later? Santa Elena was near what's now Parris Island, and San Miguel de Gualdape was another, actually the first European settlement in the continental US in 1526, near where our house at the beach is located.

Hurrah for trees like a ballroom, and righteous protests, and learning, and dogs, and writing.
